You can learn more about our department, the degrees we offer, and other information and resources at https://www.mnsu.edu/programs/psychology/. Read on and check back every day this week for information about our faculty, and helpful advice for students.
Karla Lassonde, Ph.D., Cognitive Psychology
“I value psychology’s emphasis on the scientific method and how psychological knowledge promotes critical thinking.”
Karla’s Advice:
“Use your voice both in the classroom and by making connections with faculty and other students.”
Kevin Filter, Ph.D., School Psychology
“I love all areas of science. In fact, I love to learn about things like particle physics in my spare time. So, why do I love psychology in particular? I chose psychology as an area of study because I am excited by the challenge of studying complex phenomenon that have relevance to our everyday lives. School psychology, my area of training and expertise, allows me to translate the science of human behavior into application to prevent problems and establish positive developmental trajectories for young people.”
Kevin’s Advice:
“A love of learning about the mind and behavior will carry you far. Figuring out where you want to end up and how to get there is the real challenge. So, find a psychology professor with whom you enjoy interacting and discuss your long-term plans. We’re here to help if you step in the door.”
