During Psychology Week, we are highlighting some of the faculty here in the Psychology department at Minnesota State University, Mankato. You can learn more about our department, the degrees we offer, and other information and resources at https://www.mnsu.edu/programs/psychology/. Read on and check previous posts from this week for information about our faculty, and helpful advice for students.

Geoffrey McKinley, PhD, Cognitive Psychology

“My specific area of focus is memory.”

Geoffrey’s Advice:

“Don't limit yourself to one thing and try to learn more broadly.”

Sarah Myers, PhD, Cognitive Psychology

“My favorite thing is that my psychology training prepared me to answer my real-world questions and help me end arguments, even making my partner go through an experiment to tell whether he could actually tell Blu-Ray movies from DVDs.”

Sarah’s Advice:

Look for things in every class that apply to your own life - not just career, but understanding your health, relationships, or just something cool to share with others. Finding some connection or thinking about how the information can be useful to you in your life will allow those difficult class to be less painful and help you remember the material long-term.”
