Motivation: How We Can Become More Successful in Our Daily Lives
By Maria Willner
Have you ever wondered how someone became successful?
Maybe they are someone that seems to have it all, someone who made a life for themselves that seemed so far out of reach. How and why do they have so much going on? The key to this successful and busy lifestyle is motivation. Motivation might sound like a simple concept, but it is not. Nevertheless, there are many ways people can cultivate motivation in their everyday lives.
An article from the journal Nursing Management gives three ways in which a person becomes their most effective self at home or work:
Discover your passion
Learn new information
Set goals
The first step in creating motivation is all about finding your purpose. It is important that we have a passion for what we do in our careers. When we are passionate about what we do, it makes work feel rewarding, and that is when we do our best. Take a moment to reflect on your job or how you would spend a typical day. What is the reason behind where you work or what you do? Is that job or lifestyle bringing out the best in you? These are the questions we need to consider. If the answers are negative, that could be the problem regarding motivation in your life.
Another aspect of motivation that is important is learning new information. The link between learning and motivation is highly overlooked. An article from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine says that there is an intrinsic link between learning and motivation. People who learn new things often are up for many challenges in life and enjoy the rewards of solving those problems. So, when we learn new and interesting things it sparks curiosity within us and helps sustain our personal motivation.
Learning new things and having a passion for our jobs is not always enough to keep us going. Goal setting is the key to a continuous flow of motivation. Personally, goal setting has been a lifesaver when it comes to meeting deadlines and keeping my personal resume competitive. The way that you decide to set goals has to be as unique as you are. Some people set daily goals and others set goals they want to achieve by a certain age. The impact of writing your goal down somewhere you can see it or telling another person about your goal is amazing. When you write something down or talk about it with a friend, it makes that dream become a reality that someday you will achieve.
Motivation is hard to keep up in our daily lives, but it is so important. If we try our best to discover our passion, learn new information, and set goals, we can set ourselves up for a successful life. These tips can make us become like those successful people we look up to. While motivation is more complicated than it sounds, maybe success is closer to us than it seems.
